2012 : Top 10 Movies

banner_rev 2012 was colorful indeed; the year I know about Richard Parker, Michael Haneke’s romance horror, Zoe Kazan’s excellent script, getting to know Ridley Scott, the trio buddies dare enough to be themselves in high school, and many others. While I think there’s a bunch of films felt overrated, so they end up not being in my top 10 (sorry guys). A few from this list ended up having a personal value, especially in top 5. Pieta was added last minute and Prometheus is out from top 10.

While last year I was overwhelmed doing my top 20 movies, this time I decided to focus on my top 10 (I figured it’s more special that way). But if you want to know my top 30 movies in 2012, just look at my 2012 list in Letterboxd. PS : Sorry for the lateness, but all the time making the list is needed to make sure the top 10 won’t change in the future, considering the late new releases here in my place.

  1. Skyfall is my no 1. Glad you loved Perks of Being A Wallflower, in my top 10 as well, from what I can tell, most people in blogosphere loved or at least liked that one.

I haven’t seen Pieta, look forward to that. Ki-duk Kim’s films are usually eye candy, with little dialogue.Same again?

    • Yes, either Perks or Silver Linings is a popular top movies.

I didn’t feel Pieta to have little dialogue, just normal (unlike To The Wonder). I actually didn’t expect it to wow me, and it’s very vulgar so it didn’t end up in my top 5. But I loved the message. Looking forward for your thoughts!

  2. There’s a little bit of overlap between my list and yours…

    7. SAMSARA
    4. LINCOLN
    3. AMOUR
    2. ARGO

Two more that I saw after the turn of the calendar that would have made my list include ZERO DARK THIRTY, GIRL WALK // ALL DAY, and STORIES WE TELL

    • It’s like we’re almost the opposite of 1-10 and 11-20 selections! I loved Prometheus, but there’s too many unanswered questions. And because of it, I love Noomi Rapace. I didn’t love Argo and some like others, felt it too much overrated. Nice that you have Amour and Silver Linings there!

  3. I love the beautiful graphics you have here Andina. There are a few I haven’t seen yet but we’re in agreement about ‘Playbook’, ‘The Sapphires’ and ‘Intouchables.’ I’m glad you love The Sapphires, that’s such a heartwarming and sweet movie with awesome music! I’d have included Life of Pi too but had I seen it before I made my list. Great stuff girl!

    • Thank you, Ruth. The graphics was made by cool graphic designers posted them as freebies :) Thought it’d cheered up the post a bit. How can u not love Intouchables, etc? Love ‘em

    • I have 30 but I only put 10, since it feels more special that way. Oh you must, if only for Intouchables. I hope it will be available on dvd (or maybe they already have it). Hope you can see it soon

  4. I remember in July last year (wow, almost a year!! time flies) you made a “Current Top 5 Movies in 2012″ post…. well none of those 5 made it into the final list here! Haha… but that’s kinda expected as the 1st half of a year rarely has movies as good as the 2nd half. Love your picks, and I must say splendid graphics too!

    • Yeah, last year was a slow start for sure :D :) I want to make the current top movies this year, but maybe it’s too early, ahah. Thanks, Asrap, great to hear from you!

  5. Why are you making a list this time of year? not in January?

Anyway…I love your list, not all Hollywood movies there.

I already have The Intouchable :) will watch it soon, I was a bit preoccupied with Doctor Who lately.

    • No, because several reasons; late releases and me catching up some movies ;) I want the list to be complete.

Thank you! I hope you’ll enjoy Intouchables.

    • Hmmm, yeah I think Amour viewers divided to ‘hate’ and ‘love’. Quite a challenge to see it actually. Cheers (for having the same number one) :)

  6. Glad to see some love thrown in the direction of Perks of Being a Wallflower, Life of Pi and the underrated Ruby Sparks, all three of which make up my still unpublished Top movies of 2012.
It’s funny that you mentioned Prometheus being just out of the top 10 since it’s also on the 11th place on my ever expanding list, and I’m a huge fan of the Alien franchise.
Did you see Looper? End of Watch? Django Unchained? Those are currently my top 3 for last year.
niels recently posted..Film review: Man of Steel (2013)

    • I did see Looper and Django Unchained, but they ended up not being in my top 10. I’m not a fan of too much violence, but they do stand out films. Thanks, Niels!
